We have finally had a chance to add some photos of our new addition. We had Jacob Edward at 2:53 p.m. Feb. 4, 2009. He’s the sweetest little baby. We weren’t expecting him quite so early. We came in for our 39 week appointment in the early afternoon of Feb. 3 and it was thought that my waters had broken. So, we were admitted around 3 p.m. but not much was going on. Jacob refused to stay on the monitor so I spent all night with the nurse coming every 10 or 15 minutes trying to find him again. Finally, at 3 a.m. they decided to monitor him from within and, when they put the monitor in, my waters really broke. So, after that we upped the pitocin all the way to 26 ml/min, but Jacob wasn’t handling the contractions very well. His heart rate dropped every time, so by 1 p.m. on the 4th they decided I wasn’t making enough progress, still just at 5 cm dilated, and Jacob was stressing so they decided to take him by c-section. So, he’s here and it turns out the problem was he had his face turned sideways and his fist was up beside his head. So, he had quite a bruised bump on his head, but other than that he’s a beautiful baby boy. He surprised us by being only 8 lbs 1 oz and 20 and ¾ inches long. We hope to come home from the hospital tomorrow, but Daddy brought Denny and Emily up to visit and meet Jacob. They were pretty excited and Denny wanted to read a book to him. Emily of course poked his nose, eyes and mouth making sure he had all the parts. All is well and enjoy the photos of our newest addition:

Gotta love those fresh-outta-the-womb-and-it's-freezing-here! faces - he's beautiful though!
ReplyDeleteOh, that first comment was mine, by the way. Forgot to sign my name.

He really is beautiful Sarah! It's funny how you indicated he was "small" at 8 lbs. 1 oz. Some people would think that's crazy, but I know the feeling - Our smallest was 8 lbs. 3 oz., and yes, that seemed really small to us:)
